In 1880, the year when it was founded, Beeckman began on a modest scale selling products for breweries. Every village or town had at least one brewery of its own and beer consumption was as high as 175 litres per inhabitant per year.

After the First World War Beeckman successfully began production of parafin-coated stopper cloths; at that time beer was sold exclusively in wooden barrels. These barrels were sold by Beeckman on behalf of the Alsace coopers Fruhinholz. This activity continued until 1950. After the Second World War Beeckman became a public limited company (NV).

One commercial activity disappeared, and another one emerged. In order to keep up with the times, the company made sure it adapted in line with the constantly changing situation in the market: beer brewing became industrialised, small breweries disappeared, larger ones merged and the sales market shrank.

At that time sales of raw materials and equipment to industry began, in addition to sales to industrial breweries and soft drink factories. Hence Beeckman became a general representative of Filterit (whose plates and filters it brought onto the market) and Fenart-Bauguet-Pau, a French company producing purification equipment.

In 1960 Beeckman expanded once again; it became a representative of the Swiss company Katadyn. At that time the company also began to specialise in water purification problems.

Thanks to its know-how the company has gradually expanded and specialised in water purification:

• B° Algae, appliance for combating algae
• Ceramic household and outdoor filters
• D-Calc, complete programme of combating lime scale
• Water purification tablets

Experimental programmes in greenhouse horticulture have been running continuously since 1989. Partly thanks to the collaboration with experimental gardens, particularly the Experimental Garden at Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Beeckman NV had now become a specialist in this sector.
